cold people One of the first things I noticed about Lagos was the cold - not the harmattan or the rains, but cold people. You might not notice it if you've been here all your life. People are always busy, brusque and on the move. Always frowning because smiles are somehow deemed a weakness. If you smiled too much, those mainland 4 ... 19 boys and pickpockets would see you as an easy target, and so everyone walks around with their bulletproof armour. More noteworthy (especially among the upper middle class) is how people tried to use other people as ladders so they could discard them as soon as they'd gotten to the next 'helper'.
