One of the first things I noticed about Lagos was the cold - not the harmattan or the rains, but cold people. You might not notice it if you've been here all your life. However, I lived in Ibusa, Asaba, Ogbomosho, Port Harcourt and Benin City before coming here and the difference in emotional climates was interesting to note.

People are always busy, brusque and on the move. Always frowning because smiles are somehow deemed a weakness. If you smiled too much, those mainland 4...19 boys and pickpockets would see you as an easy target, and so everyone walks around with their bulletproof armour.

More noteworthy (especially among the upper middle class) is how people tried to use other people as ladders so they could discard them as soon as they'd gotten to the next 'helper'.

The consequence of this culture is the pervasive unhappiness that no one talks about.

Behind the pretty makeup, wigs, designer bags and business suits, people have layers and layers of questions.

If I open up to this person, will they 'screenshot' my chat?
Why is this person being nice. What's their plan?

  I'm knee-deep in debt, but if I talk about it, won't they discard me too?

  Is this person close to me because of what they can get?
If this person gets to know me so well, won't see-finish take over?
Too may lonely and unhappy people just living from day to day.

Suicides are not new here. It's social media that is new.

There needs to be a demolition of the existing value system, so that we can rebuild one that serves us.
But this life as it is, this is not who we are.

Meningitis Under Your Foot

Dr. Biodun Idowu​ explain this Dear Folks Federal Government of Nigeria has confirmed Meningitis outbreak in 16 states, killing 328 people with about 2,524 suspected cases across the country. The most affected States are those within the Africa Meningitis Belt. Other Countries that are facing similar outbreaks include Niger, Chad, Cameroon, Togo, and Burkina Faso. Many Colours of Success We live in a world where money literally means success, where assumptions overrule certainties and stereotyped beliefs instill fears in people. It's a great thing to dream, hope and fantasize, but to what end? Dreams, especially for the undisciplined is a waste of time because it will shift with circumstances and will most likely remain a dream till such person dies, which makes the mortuary the wealthiest abode in human existence.
