Grumpy or Happy

Doc, Dopey, Bashful, Sneezy, Sleepy, Grumpy, and Happy are the names of the seven dwarfs…from the movie “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs”. And, for the purposes of this message, we are going to drop five and focus on two… Grumpy and Happy. Why? Because these two characters, these polar opposites beautifully demonstrate the best and worst attitude one can have as it relates to life and work. HAPPY A common misconception of work for far too many people is that they associate it with hardship, misfortune, pain, inconvenience, and stress. However, when you look at your work as a curse, as a grind…as something you must endure…you are missing out on one of the greatest joys of life. Kahil Gibran the Lebanese artist and philosopher said in his essay On Work that…” work is love made visible “, and I for one wholeheartedly agree. The word love is appropriate because it is precisely right in both the meaning and the feeling that it carries. Work can, should and must be a...

The Difference between Gold and Silver

The Difference Between Gold and Silver Small Actions – Big Results Olympic champion swimmer Michael Phelps. As the Rio Olympics are coming to a close this evening, I am reminded of a 60 Minutes interview with Olympic Champion Michael Phelps. During the interview, the host Anderson Cooper showed pictures of Phelps winning the 100-meter butterfly final at the Water Cube in Beijing by ONE-HUNDREDTH of a second over Serbia’s Milorad Cavic. Phelps admitted that his winning margin of one-hundredth of a second was almost impossible to see but it was because of ONE small difference, on the final stroke Cavic lifted his head up just slightly which acted as a mini speed bump and I kept my head down streamlined. Small stuff matters a lot! It’s important to keep in mind that high achievers in every vocation turn over all stones, understanding and exploiting to their benefit the fact that the critical difference between merely acceptable versus excellent results lies in the sm...

Premier League Preview Part One

Premier league preview part one The English premier league kicks off in a matter of hours and we can't but preview as always, the wait is over, men have moved, managers have changed jobs, but the league remains. Notable absentee from the dugout this time is the self styled relegation battle expert Sam Alardyce, who surprisingly was named as the new manager of the Three Lions, Jose Mourinho made a quick return to active service after being laid off by Chelsea last winter following another defeat at Leicester, and of course the biggest name (arguably) from the new bunch has to be Pep Guardiola, who now manages the blue half of Manchester. It's a season like no other, with big names leading out the teams in different ideologies and tactics, but there can only be one winner, and there can only be four champions league place finishers, so who misses out? Watford have a veteran in Walter Mazzari, Slaven Bilic proved his mettle last term, Mauricio Pochetinno gave a good fight as w...

EPL EPIC STARTER

Hello everyone, we could feel your loud heave from here, it was a long wait, spiced by the ever inconsiderate inconsistencies of the transfer window, but the new season is upon us, get in here bookies, let's make some money! Where will the first goal come from? There can only be one winner at the end of the thirty eight round bout, it's a marathon, the new managers want the title, the longest serving Frenchman somewhere in north London got points to prove, the rookies that made statements last term, predominantly from north and west London will try again, but how will the first round go? Here's our take at the predictions table. Saturday 12th August Hull City vs Leicester City KCOM stadium 12:30pm Who would have thought it rightly, 365 days ago that Leicester City would be filing out on a day like this as a league defending champions? Not even the best of crystal ball custodians would have predicted that, but here we are, the champions travel to new comers Hull for ...

African Child

Oh little dear Born without a silver spoon Blackened by the heat from a yellow ball With agony of the skin And cries from our mouth “Melanin, what is our crime?” Oh little dear Whelped and bred in the darkness of light In the blackness of darkness abide thee Waffling and babbling, ye claim to speak Maliciously with vitreous lens, ye survey the earth Mother Nature, why torment us? Oh little dear Sold to slavery, a suffragan people Like oil and water, immiscible with the whites Mentally psycho, bond by the chains of western westerners Amidst this, ye are sozzled Not with palmie, but… Oh little dear The say when there is life, hope is sure Yes! We are sozzled with hope Our hope lies in the never ending slumber What a silhouette of hope A hope silhouette Oh little dear Arise and shine, for thy light has come A glorious glory is risen upon thee The Maker has heard thy cries Even thy wafflings have the heavens embraced Freedom is come, free ...
