A Heineken commercial puts Pepsi's 'protest' ad to shame

Heineken released a new ad targeting social awareness issues that puts Pepsi's Kendall Jenner "protest" ad to shame. The ad, titled "World's Apart," pairs people who hold opposing views on hot-button social issues like feminism, climate change, and transgender rights. The pairs, who aren't privy to each other's views initially, go through a bonding activity before the big reveal. Participants are then given a choice to chat about their viewpoints over Heineken beers, or to walk away. All of them choose to stay and engage with each other. The ad was posted on YouTube April 20, and had more than three million views as of Thursday night. Reaction to the Heineken ad was far different from that of Pepsi's Kendall Jenner ad, which was pulled a day after its release . Watch the full ad below: NEXT POST:   Meet the current world oldest person

50 Ways to Save Your Life

Motorcycle Cruiser’s sisterbrand, Motorcyclist magazine, had published the following advice to an overwhelmingly appreciative response. We have decided to republish the list of living-saving techniques—in its entirety—for our own readership. 1. Assume you’re invisible Because to a lot of drivers, you are. Never make a move based on the assumption that another driver sees you, even if you’ve just made eye contact. 2. Be considerate The consequences of strafing the jerk du jour or cutting him off start out bad and get worse. Pretend it was your grandma and think again. 3. Dress for the crash, not the pool or the prom Sure, Joaquin’s Fish Tacos is a five-minute trip, but nobody plans to eat pavement. Modern mesh gear means 100-degree heat is no excuse for a T-shirt and board shorts. 4. Hope for the best, prepare for the worst Assume that car across the intersection will turn across your bow when the light goes green, with or without a turn signal. 5. Leave your ego a

French election: Emmanuel Macron beats Marine Le Pen

Macron v Le Pen in French election run-off The top two candidates - Emmanuel Macron and Marine Le Pen - will go head-to-head in round two of the contest on 7 May The centrist Emmanuel Macron will face off with the far-right's Marine Le Pen in the battle for the French presidency in two weeks.  The pair emerged as the winners overnight of the hard fought first round of the contest to replace Francois Hollande as French leader. Despite Mr. Macron being a relative political novice who has never held elected office before, polls have consistently suggested if he went up against Le Pen in the final battle he would easily win. And Mr. Macron already has the momentum on his side with the defeated socialist candidate Benoit Hamon and republican Francois Fillon pledging to throw their weight behind him to defeat Le Pen and her anti-immigration and anti-Europe policies.

HTC's next phone will be squeezable

https://twitter.com/htc/status/854937689354772480 HTC has confirmed rumors that its upcoming new smartphone -- the U -- will be squeezable. That doesn't mean the Taiwanese firm is about to ship a rubber device. Rather, the phone's metal frame will include embedded sensors that enable its owner to control settings and make gestures by squeezing its sides or swiping up and down on them, according to a VentureBeat report  from prolific smartphone insider  Evan Blass . In order words, smartphone controls will no longer be limited to the screen. It's an intriguing prospect, and we'll know more when the device is unveiled on May 16, according to today's HTC teaser. You can expect the company to shed more light on the squeeze mechanics and other features before that date. HTC will hope that the U and its quirks make a larger dent than the U Ultra , which has already gotten a 20 percent price cut to increase its appeal despite going on sale just weeks ago. HT

Credit card with a fingerprint sensor revealed by Mastercard

A payment card featuring a fingerprint sensor has been unveiled by credit card provider Mastercard. The rollout follows two successful trials in South Africa. The technology works in the same way as it does with mobile phone payments: users must have their finger over the sensor when making a purchase. Security experts have said that while using fingerprints is not foolproof, it is a "sensible" use of biometric technology. 'Nine changes' Mastercard's chief of safety and security, Ajay Bhalla, said that the fingerprint technology would help "to deliver additional convenience and security. It is not something that can be taken or replicated." However, fingerprint sensors can be compromised Karsten Nohl, chief scientist at Berlin's Security Research Labs, told the BBC: "All I need is a glass or something you have touched in the past." He adds that if that information is stolen, "you only have nine fingerprint

North Korea says 'don't mess with us' as U.S. plans next move

© REUTERS/Damir Sagolj A Picture and its Story: North Korea on parade Secretary of State Rex Tillerson said the United States was looking at ways to pressure North Korea over its nuclear programme as North Korean state media warned the Americans of a "super-mighty preemptive strike" and said don't "mess with us". U.S. President Donald Trump has taken a hard line with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, who has rebuffed admonitions from sole major ally China and proceeded with nuclear and missile programmes in defiance of U.N. Security Council sanctions. Reclusive North Korea regularly threatens to destroy Japan, South Korea and the United States and has shown no let-up in its belligerence after a failed missile test on Sunday, a day after putting on a huge display of missiles at a parade in Pyongyang. "We're reviewing all the status of North Korea, both in terms of state sponsorship of terrorism as well as the other ways in which we can bring

Serena Williams: World number two appears to confirm pregnancy

Serena Williams beat her sister Venus in the final to win the Australian Open in January World number two Serena Williams has appeared to announce on social media that she is pregnant. The 35-year-old posted a picture of herself on Snapchat posing in a mirror with the message: "20 weeks" before deleting the post. If confirmed, the American, who won a record 23rd Grand Slam in Australia this January , will miss most of the remaining tennis season. This includes three Grand Slams - the French Open, Wimbledon and US Open. Would it be a 24th Grand Slam

Cahil MR NICE GUY blasted for helping Lingard up instead of defending

Gary Cahill has been blasted by Chelsea fans after he helped Manchester United forward Jesse Lingard off the floor instead of defending. In the build-up to Manchester United’s second goal at Old Trafford the Blues captain displayed a bizarrely timed piece of sportsmanship. Lingard was on the floor and despite the ball being in play and United on the attack, Cahill put out his hand to help his England team-mate off the turf. Just seconds later, and with the Chelsea defense very deep inside their own box, Ander Herrera rifled a deflected shot into the net. Chelsea fans were furious with Cahill for taking his focus off his defensive duties to help out his rival.

Meet Violet, the new ‘world’s oldest person’

The oldest person in the world is now Violet Mosse Brown, a 117-year-old woman from Jamaica. Congratulations, Violet! Known as ‘Aunt V’ to friends, she was born in Trelawney on March 10, 1900 and has lived there all of her phenomenally long life. After celebrating her 110th milestone, she told a local paper: ‘Really and truly, when people ask what me eat and drink to live so long, I say to them that I eat everything, except pork and chicken, and I don’t drink rum and dem tings. ‘You know, sometimes I ask myself, ‘Am I really 110 years old?’ because I don’t feel like 110.’ Jamaican Prime Minister Andrew Holness tweeted his congratulations: She once told the Jamaica Observer that she ‘likes fish and mutton and sometimes she will have cow foot.’ A staunch contributor to her church, she said ‘My faith in serving God, and believing strongly in the teaching of the bible’ helped her reach such a long age. I Failed to Motivate my Team - Conte

Getty Image Chelsea boss Antonio Conte said he took responsibility for failing to motivate his side in Sunday's defeat by Manchester United. The Blues  lost 2-0 at Old Trafford  and are now just four points ahead of Tottenham at the top of the table, having led by 10 points in March. "We didn't play a good game and United deserved to win the game," said Conte. "They showed more desire, more ambition, more motivation. In this case the fault is of the coach."                                      The Italian added he had not been able to "transfer the right concentration, desire, ambition to win this game" Spurs have put themselves into title contention with a run of seven successive league wins, while Chelsea have had two losses in their past four games. The teams meet at Wembley on Saturday (17:15 BST) in the first of the weekend's FA Cup semi-finals. "I have concern because we have to work together and find quickly the r

STIMULUS: ATTRACTION TO YOUR TRIBE

In primary school, we learned this as one of the characteristics of living things. We must be able to feel stimulus (pl. stimuli). If certain parts of our body do not feel stimuli, they might 'forget' their primary functions. Also research 'muscle memory'. However, this is not a biology class. If you're a very articulate person, raise your hand. Has there ever been a time you lacked proper words with which to intelligently express your ideas? You were speaking but you knew inside you that this was subpar. If you're a professional writer/content creator, raise your hand. Have you ever sat at your desk to write a piece and the words just wouldn't flow? Or when they did, they didn't impress you? Certain parts of our brain are responsible for these gifts. They can forget if they're not being stimulated consistently. In my teenage years, I never saw movies just for fun. I only saw those that would stimulate the parts of my mind re
